Dry Eyes
Dry eyes is a term used to describe symptoms of irritation, itching, burning and transient blurred vision and is a very common condition. The main risk factors are increasing age, female gender, certain medications and inflammation and or malposition of the eyelids. The symptoms for the majority of patients occur because there is either a disturbance of the production of components of the tears or an abnormal quality of tears.
Although there is no cure for dry eyes, treatment is aimed at treating the underlying cause (treatment of eyelid inflammation) and improving the quality of the tears (with tear substitute drops).
